The Government’s Newspeak

If you haven’t heard about the alterations in the language of Canadian foreign policy at the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs yet, you may want to start paying attention. Recent changes are affecting the way in which we, Canadians, describe issues within the development sphere and cause great concern for persons left vulnerable during times of war. Terms such as ”gender equality,” “child soldiers,” “international humanitarian law,” “good governance,” “human security,” “public diplomacy” and “The Responsibility to Protect” have been blacklisted. Why you ask? Our Founder and Director, Adrian Bradbury, wanted to know the same thing and had much to say about the issue. Read below for more information from his recent blog post:
