GuluWalkers: You did it!
Once again, many of you have walked for the children of northern Uganda. On Oct. 24, you took out your orange t-shirts and banners; you put on your walking shoes and raised your voices!
This year, GuluWalk is focused on reconstruction and sustainability of peace throughout the region. By making a commitment to walk, you have committed to peace in northern Uganda with GuluWalk.
We have raised over $125,000 so far and the donations are still coming in. Construction for the Youth Cultural Centre in Gulu will begin next Spring and by walking with us on October 24th, you have made this possible. The facility will include a theatre, training/practice studios, dorms and will be a central hub of activity that will promote locally led approaches to arts, culture, justice and ultimately peace.
To all walkers, organizers, sponsors and friends of GuluWalk: Thank-you for your continued support!
Also; an additional congratulations to Harp Athwal and Karen Flores! At our pre-GuluWalk fundraising deadline; Harp was the top GuluWalk fundraiser worldwide with more than $7, 500 raised. Karen, who is the GuluWalk organizer in Winnipeg, was chosen from the group of ‘founding builders’ (walkers who raised more than $500 online). Both will receive a special ‘thank-you’ trip to northern Uganda with GuluWalk next year!
