Showcasing a selection of Canadian documentary films that explore human-rights related themes both in Canada and abroad, the 2nd annual Human Rights Docfest runs from July 23 - July 25 in Toronto.

Quebec filmmakers Mignault and Magny secretly entered one of Burma’s most dangerous zones, penetrating the heart of the Karen Nation, where civil war has raged for more than six decades.

Director: Nelofer Pazira
Afghan-Canadian director Pazira returns to Bamiyan, Afghanistan shocked to see a crowd of 2000 people gathered for the screening of The Giant Buddhas, an award-winning film she collaborated on. Inspired, she decides to audition locals for an upcoming film, asking pointed questions that challenge their preconceptions while renegotiating the balance of power and control of a society straddling two worlds.
